My Thoughts: Coming into week 1 of the NFL football season as a Bengal's fan, I had allot of questions. Carson Palmer, can he play 4 quarters of a regular season game yet on his surgically repaired knee? Have the Bengal's improved the rush defense enough to contain Larry Johnson of the Chiefs? T.J. Houshmandzadeh is out with a bruised heel, how will this Bengal's offense look without him? Just to name a few. As a Bengal's fan, I am hoping what I saw in week 1 against the Chiefs will be the way this young 2006 will play out. Carson did not have a huge fantasy day but threw 0 interceptions. Carson was more impressive in this game than his 127 passing yards would indicate. Bottom line, our leader Carson Palmer is back. The Bengal's defense had a very impressive 7 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1 interception. Rudi Johnson came threw with a couple 10-22 yards run and finished the day just short of 100 rushing yards with 96 rushing yards. I would like to wish a speedy recovery to T.J. Houshmandzadeh who missed week 1 with a bruised heel. I would also like to say get well to Trent Green of the KC Chiefs who was injured in this game. It was ruled a clean hit from Robert Geathers of the Bengal's by the NFL, but that does not change the fact Green had his head slammed to the field. Robert Geathers is 1 of my favorite Bengal's, finally he is starting to get some media but it is for the wrong reason.
Who impressed me against the Chiefs in week 1? Justin Smith - 3 sacks, 1 FFum, 1 FFur. Justin Smith is in a contract year so who knows, he may finally have a break out season. Robert Geathers - Injured Trent Green on a hit I originally thought was dirty. Looking at the reply, just playing football and he was pushed by a Chiefs player. In what snaps Geathers played, he seemed to be around the ball. Carson Palmer - Just being able to be back is amazing to me after being injured against the Steelers in the playoffs last season. But Carson played solid completing 13 of 19 passes. Bengal's Defense - To be the first defense in the last 9 games to hold Larry Johnson under 100 rushing yards is very impressive and would not have happened last season. The Bengal's only gave up 10 total points against one of the most prominent offenses in the NFL over the past couple of seasons. Sam Adams - Only 1 tackle in his Bengal's debut. Sounds like a let down on paper, I am here to tell you after watching this game, this was a awesome debut for Big Poppa (Sam Adams). His name was not called allot, but he allowed many of his teammates names to be called. His physical size and athleticism demanded attention and other Bengal's took advantage. Very impressed with big Sam Adams. The Cincinnati Bengal's Team - Game balls for the whole team, great way to start a grinding, grueling, rigorous NFL schedule. The Bengal's have the talent to be a playoff team even with drawing the NFL's toughest schedule this season. |
